The 2014 conference organisers invite the region's teachers to join them for this stream, on Wednesday 26 November. This NZSA conference is joint with the Operations Research Society of NZ's annual conference. Our purposes in creating this stream and inviting teachers to it are: to provide teachers with applications using contexts that will engage their students to update teachers and statisticians on the very active developments in NZ statistical education to facilitate interactions among teachers and other members of the statistical community. The statistical education presenters and topics likely so far include these: Derek Smith and Robin Averill: Statistics in the Middle Years: Evidence and Practice, on the forthcoming NZ book by them and many others Stephanie Budgett and Maxine Pfannkuch: Visualising chance: A pilot study at the introductory level, on conditioning and independence, and new visualisations for them, with prototype software tools Geoff Gibbs: Review of Mathematics and Statistics in Senior Secondary, on the new Review And Maintenance Programme (RAMP) for NZ Curriculum-derived materials Rosemary Hipkins: Doing research that matters, on why one research team funded by the Teaching and Learning Research Initiative (TLRI) has been so successful in doing research that has led to real and sustained change in teaching and learning John Harraway and Sharleen Forbes: e-learning Resources for Training in Official Statistics, on pilot apps that will be useful in schools Michelle Dalrymple: Developing students' statistical insight, on what that means, and activities to encourage it.
