]]> In this workshop, Ricky Pedersen (De La Salle College) looked at how teachers can use rich data sets to explore relationships. De La Salle College聽used the Gapminder software created by Hans Rosling to allow students to explore relevant聽world data which is engaging and quite often challenges their assumptions.

Ricky 聽looked at聽how to use this along with iNZight in order to help students prepare a statistical report.

The workshop required a laptop with iNZight loaded on it, and Gapminder software from http://www.gapminder.org/downloads/

]]> Ricky Pedersen, from De La Salle College, presents at the joint Auckland Mathematics Association and University of Auckland 2014 Statistics Teachers Day.

Ricky’s workshop shared his experiences of unit planning in a department. Three different unit plan models and the processes that were used at De La Salle College to produce unit plans for statistics and probability for years 7-10 were discussed. These unit plans have been used to teach these topics this year and will be reviewed before we use them again in 2015. Concrete ideas about promoting collaboration within your own department as well as looking at how to modify or adapt your own units of work to include some of the ideas are shared.
