Writing, crafting, critiquing, developing, moderating or what comes down to wrangling Statistics assessments is often a daunting task, with many teachers opting to re-use the same assessments, contexts and data sets repeatedly – The Australian sports data set and zygomatic widths of Maui dolphin rostrums ring any bells?

Lucy Edmonds聽 & Heral Patel from Green Bay High School, covered their process of writing both internals and E-O-Y school assessments, from choosing interesting and engaging contexts, to developing an assessment at different levels of understanding. Lucy and Heral are reasonably confident they’ve already made every mistake possible when writing, moderating and administering assessments – and shared a system of writing assessments which make them interesting to both us and the students (acknowledgements to Sue Spencer, Epsom Girls’ Grammar School).聽

Lucy Edmond’s from Epsom Girls’ Grammar School,聽presented at the joint 2013 Auckland Mathematical Association and Department of Statistics (University of Auckland) Statistics Teachers Day. The workshop focuses on the Level 3 Internal assessments 3.8, 3.9, 3.10 and 3.11, however the techniques can be used for other levels of statistics teaching.

Please note: Making an inference is not聽required when analyzing bi-variate data.
