In this workshop Liz Sneddon & Kathy Albertson (Ormiston Senior College) discussed how their department invested in Sphero robots to use in our classes. Hear about the journey they took in using these robots for assessing 1.11 Bivariate data and 1.13 Elements of chance. Participants will drive the robots in this session using a smartphone (or iPad) and complete some of the practical tasks their students loved doing! Please have the app (Sphero EDU or SPRK Lightning Lab – available in iOS & Google Play) installed on your smart device for this session.

Liz Sneddon from Aorere College,聽presented at the 2013 joint Auckland Mathematics Association and Department of Statistics (University of Auckland) Statistics Teachers Day.

Liz presented an integrated programme for Junior statistics. The programme for years 9 and 10 prepares students for senior statistics using the PPDAC cycle at its core. Liz developed a series of write-on workbooks and post-tests to step students through the PPDAC cycle and the skills required. The workbooks (Bivariate, Multivariate and Time series) allow students to progress at their own pace and at the end of the workshop they complete a full investigation. This leads to a post-test on each of the three topics, where the mark schedule contains guidelines to determine which level students are at (Level 2-6). In the workbooks students are able to work from any level and they have been tested on all year 9 and 10 students at Aorere College.
