Lucy Edmonds, fromĀ Green Bay High School presented at the joint Auckland Mathematics Association and University of Auckland 2014 Statistics Teachers Day.

Lucy’s workshop was about writing techniques. Wait, was this a workshop for Statistics Day? Have you ever told your students to write a conclusion or introduction and found they did not know where to begin? Have you said to yourself, ā€œThis just isn’t a ā€˜Merit’ reportā€ based solely on writing ability? This presentation focused on explaining and describing the grammar conventions for report writing.

Lucy used examples of bivariate measurement reports to explain common writing techniques which could empower both teachers and students to communicate more coherently and succinctly to raise achievement levels in report writing. Note: making an inference is NOT required for analysis of bi-variate data.
