Anne Patel,ÌýOtahuhu College, Census At School & Jake Wills, Westlake Boys’ High School, present at the jointÌýAMA and University of Auckland Statistics Teachers’ Day.

Anne and Jake discuss students formal writing skills that are already at excellence level, but point out language issues teachers and students should be aware of.

Excellence level statistical communication will be a focus as integration of both sets of knowledge (statistical and contextual) are required for students to reach Excellence in this standard.

It is important to note that the language features discussed will not be applicable to all students, especially those working towards Achieved level, who have a basic grasp of Ìýboth formal report writing and statistical concepts at level 3.

Jake Wills from Westlake Boys High School presents NZGrapher. This web-based package is easy to use and if you are not sure the help button tells you what the different buttons do.

The preloaded data sets together with the MathsNZ resources provide even novice Statistics teachers with resources that will benefit student learning.

It was designed specifically for Level 3, and covers all the needs of 3.8 Time Series, 3.9 Bivariate Data, 3.10 Inferences and 3.11 Experiments.

NZGrapher allows students to upload their own data sets or enter data directly into it… this is specifically targeted to Year 9 students who have collected data to check their manual calculations on an iPad but could be useful for Year 13 students doing the experiments standard. It also allows deleting specific rows, or adding extra rows on the end. It also allows users to edit the dataset directly which allows you to edit any stray points.

You can access NZGrapher here:Ìý

If you want a custom folder set up for your school, please contact Jake directly viaÌýÌý
